Did you know that August is “Admit You're Happy Month!” Yes, an entire month devoted to seeing and finding all the reasons to be happy and joy-filled. So, where to begin? Well, as I sit here writing this, just outside my window I can see a huge oak tree with its leaves swaying in the wind. And a beautiful red robin perched on one of the branches. How can I not smile and notice the wonderful things right outside! I am a happy person and when I realize that I can’t help but see all the wonders in our world. And I also get to be with other happy people, as my happiness seeps into theirs! It’s magical.
When was the last time you took stock of all the things you can be happy about in your life? Maybe this morning as you affirmed your day? Or perhaps it’s been awhile as you’ve gotten bogged down with just getting through your day and your routine? Well, it’s time to shake it up and really notice how happy you can be. Here’s the challenge—how happy do you want to be? It’s your choice!
Begin by writing a list of what you can be happy for in your life right now. And challenge yourself by thinking of how you can be happy in unhappy situations. Say you have a long commute and the traffic is awful. Be happy for the time you get to listen to the radio, or a book on CD, or just quiet time without any interruptions. When you have your list, share it with your loved ones, or people at work. If people get to see how happy and grateful you are, they will want to be happy around you!
We lead such amazing lives. Don’t forget that you are in charge of how each day will be for you.
