Hi
,
We just had our niece’s son over from the UK, he’s 16 years old and it was so great to have him stay with us because he was so WOWED by the States. It was like taking a kid into a great big candy store for the first time and everything rocks! What it did for me of course was make me see everything through new eyes. Like when we took him on a boat tour of Chicago and were able to see the skyline from the lake—and I remembered, ‘it really is a magnificent city!’

So that’s what I want you to do in the month of July and for the rest of your life—look at things with new eyes. It’s about realizing how amazing everything is and how lucky we are to live on this fantastic planet. We have so much and maybe it is because of that, that we stop looking and instead of being amazed by life, we just take everything for granted. Instead of enjoying our relationships with co-workers, family and friends we stop looking at all the good things and just notice the bad.
So once again, I am reminded that it is all a choice. Everything begins with a thought and it is always our powerful choice to reach for a better feeling one. I love this story—it makes the point so well:
An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend,
"Let me tell you a story.
I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down; it is like taking poison. "I have struggled with these feelings many times. It is as if there are two wolves inside me; one is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offense was intended. But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will send him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing. Sometimes it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."
The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"
The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed." |
So let’s feed the thoughts that do no harm and let those good thoughts dominate our spirits and our lives. Remember, even when you have no choice about relationships, circumstances or events, you always have the choice about your thoughts—you are the only one in charge of those so feed the good ones and you always feel better—guaranteed!
